Flowers By Wendy extends a warm welcome to you. As a full-time independent florist located in the Somerset Village of Stogumber, I take pride in my journey and the evolution of my business.

Upon completing school, my initial career path was in hairdressing, driven by my proficiency in Art. However, following marriage and the arrival of three children, I dedicated my time to welcoming B & B guests, nurturing my garden, and participating in village flower shows. This period nurtured my growing interest in flowers, plants, and foliage, reminiscent of my childhood experiences in Crowcombe and Vellow.

Upon my children’s enrollment in school, a friend encouraged me to join her in pursuing studies in floristry, horticulture, and botany at a college. Embracing the opportunity, I recognized its alignment with my artistic nature. Although mastering the craft presented challenges, completing the City and Guilds course equipped me with fundamental knowledge in floristry, encompassing weddings, funerals, floral gifts, plants, and business management.

Following my parents’ retirement from their Tea Garden venture, I assumed ownership and transitioned the business to bear my name. This transformation involved securing a bank overdraft, acquiring a van, and delving into website development, despite my unfamiliarity with computers. After three years of perseverance and learning curves, the fourth year marked a turning point for the business, primarily centered on weddings, events, and the provision of professional services.

With over 38 years of industry experience, I take pride in adapting to evolving trends while upholding standards. The expansion into ‘pick up and go’ floral gifts and plants across multiple shops reflects the business’s diversification. Additionally, engaging in Christmas workshops and imparting my skills to clients has been a rewarding facet of my journey.

I invite you to explore our websites and social media platforms, which serve as windows into my florist life. Collaborative support from my family, including my daughter, mother, daughter-in-law, and son, has been invaluable. Upholding professionalism and meeting customer expectations remain the guiding principles of my journey. My son Ollie has helped with advice on anything internet! Social media takes time to understand. My husband Moss is very supportive and keeps me laughing, I am now blessed with four grandsons that are brilliant for cleaning and a granddaughter! Despite the industry’s highs and lows, my motto has stayed the same be professional and try to achieve what my customers expect.
